The 2008 IPL champions were down and out as their opponents needed just four to win in the final over. However, Kartik Tyagi showcased his nerves of steel and conceded just a single, to clinch a memorable win for the Rajasthan Royals.

IPL 2021 Kartik Tyagi – Sanju Samson’s Brett LEE: In a video uploaded by Rajasthan Royals after the game, Sanju Samson was all praise for Kartik Tyagi after the young pacer helped the franchise clinch a valuable two points. The Royals skipper called him “Brett Lee” referring to his pace and skill. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal also cheekily chipped in, saying that that the camera shouldn’t be off Tyagi after his performance on Tuesday.

IPL 2021 Kartik Tyagi – Sanju Samson’s Brett LEE: Tyagi’s last over heroics is the joint fewest runs defended in the final over in IPL history. Earlier, Munaf Patel had also helped Royals to a win defending four in the 20th over against the Mumbai Indians in the 2009 edition in South Africa. In T20 internationals, Jasprit Bumrah leads the pack for India having defended 7 in the final over vs England in 2017.

Tyagi received plaudits from all across the cricketing fraternity, with Jasprit Bumrah himself praising the young Indian pacer on turning the game on its head. Virender Sehwag, Venkatesh Prasad, Harsha Bhogle, Suresh Raina were amongst the many who sent their best wishes to Tyagi, who won the man of the match award.

In his post-match presentation, Tyagi said: “I was injured during the India leg of the IPL and by the time I got fit, the tournament was suspended. Felt sad. So this feels really good.”
“I have been talking to people over the years and they keep telling me that things keep changing in this format, so I need to keep believing. I’ve always heard from everyone and also watched games in this format where strange things have happened. Today, I was fortunate to play a big role in something special. I was bowling a bit too short earlier, later worked on it consciously after getting a lot of feedback,” he added.
