Replying to a question by a RR fan, Samson revealed that he is excited to work with Kumar Sangakkara- one of the greatest wicket-keeper-batsman of all time- and really looking forward to learn the tricks of the trade.

“When I came to know we are having Sanga, I got very excited. I am very happy that we are going to have Sanga for the next season and the next few years,” he said.
“It’s an honour to have him alongside, especially when I am the captain and he is the coach. The relationship is going to be really special. Looking forward to meeting him and learning a lot of things from him,” Samson stated further.

The Sri Lanka legend Kumar Sangakkara was roped in as ‘Director of Cricket’ by RR for IPL 2021. He will be in charge of overseeing the entire cricket ecosystem of the Royals. It includes team strategy, coaching structure, talent discovery and development and development of Royal Academy in Nagpur.
Sanju Samson, who will be leading RR for the first time in IPL 2021, said he is delighted to lead the team. Despite the presence of Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler, Samson has been handed the responsibility. He has experience of leading Kerala in domestic tournaments. The Rajasthan Royals skipper stressed that he is not nervous rather excited about his new role.
“I am very much excited to do this role for my team. I started being a Royal when I was 18 and now I am 26 – the team has given me this role, I am really excited and looking forward to it,” Samson opined.
Samson is the leading run-scorer for the franchise with over 2,500 runs. He had scored 375 runs in 14 matches in IPL 2020.
Rajasthan Royals will play their opening match against Punjab Kings at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 12.
