IPL 2021 Playoff Race, RCB vs PBKS: What do PBKS need to qualify for playoffs?

  • Punjab Kings face RCB and CSK in their last two matches and can’t afford to lose either. Any slip up will see them exit the tournament.
  • They need to win both while also improve on their net run rate. Currently, PBKS are behind KKR on NRR (-0.236).
  • But even after winning both matches, PBKS will have to depend on other results to go their way, especially of KKR and MI.
  • KKR have two matches left and they face SRH and RR. If they win both, it will come down to the NRR and KKR have an advantage with a positive NRR of +0.302.
  • PBKS will need KKR to lose at least one.
  • The other factor is Mumbai Indians. Even though MI are behind on NRR, Rohit Sharma & Co have a match in hand. They face DC, RR and SRH and winning two of them will keep in the hunt, meaning PBKS’ chances will be slimmer if MI better the NRR.
