IPL 2021: Piyush Chawla breaks record:  Piyush Chalwa may have not got the desired team result on debut, but the veteran leg-spinner did make his mark and in the process enter the record books on Friday. The 32-year-old finished with figures of 1/38, scalping the wicket of Mohammad Nabi. The wicket was his 263rd wicket in T20s, making the leading wicket-taker for India, ahead of the like of Amit Mishra and Ravichandran Ashwin.

IPl 2021: Piyush Chawla creates history, becomes India’s leading wicket-taker in T20s

Making his debut for the Mumbai Indians, Piyush Chawla got the better of Mohammad Nabi, his 263rd wicket in T20s, making him India’s leading wicket-taker in the format. Chawla was tied with Amit Mishra at 262, but following his spell on Friday, he leapfrogged the Delhi stalwart in the list. Incidentally, Mishra and Chawla are also amongst the leading wicket-takers in IPL history, with the former second on the overall list with 166 wickets, while Chawla is fourth with 157 scalps.

Among other players, only Delhi Capitals star  Ravichandran Ashwin has crossed the 250 wicket barrier in the format. The top five is consisting of Jasprit Bumrah being the leading man in terms of pace bowlers, who is sixth behind the spin quintet. RCB’s Yuzvendra Chahal and KKR’s Harbhajan Singh make the top five.
