“Team are not granted to any state associations. BCCI AGM may approve inclusion of 1 or 2 teams for the next edition. Ahmedabad will be one of the city, other cities like Pune, Lucknow, Kanpur can also be included in the list. Inclusion of Guwahati in the list of potential cities at this stage is unlikely’, said the senior BCCI official.
IPL 2021 New Team – In case BCCI AGM agrees to introduction of new IPL teams from IPL 2021, Ahmedabad city is almost certain to be included in the IPL franchise city list.
The proposal to increase two teams for the Indian Premier League 2021 (IPL 2021) will be formally floated for the approval of the house in the AGM on Dec 24th. An approval will be taken from the representatives of all the state associations for the inclusion of two new teams in the said meeting on Dec. 24th.
According to the information available with InsideSport, one thing is certain now that Ahmedabad city will be included in the IPL roaster before anyone else. The names of Lucknow / Kanpur, Pune will come for discussion if the BCCI AGM decides to increase more than 1 team for IPL 2021 or IPL 2022.
In case BCCI AGM decides to postpone the proposal for the new teams for the IPL 2022, still Ahmedabad will be the first city that gets included in the IPL roaster.
IPL 2021 New Team – BCCI a divided house on ‘feasibility of new teams for IPL 2021’
InsideSport earlier had reported that BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, Secretary Jay Shah is completely in favor of introducing new teams from the next edition itself, but few others are questioning the feasibility of IPL teams for the 14th edition.
According to one of the BCCI official InsideSport spoke to, ‘time is too short for introduction of the new teams for IPL in 2021. Tendering, players auction and most importantly getting all the stakeholders on the same page will be really challenging in short-time span. We are of the view, any addition to the team should only happen for IPL 2022″

Another old BCCI functionary also is not comfortable with the idea of new IPL teams before 2022. According to this official, “Our broadcast rights deal with Star will end by IPL 2021. After the end of the cycle we should introduce new teams so that the broadcast rights and other commercial partnership values can be increased. Final decision now will be taken in AGM only and according to me the plan to increase teams will be shelved this year’.
“Ten teams will mean 94 matches in the home and away format. That implies a bigger window for the tournament, which may be tough given the current situation”, said another BCCI official
