IPL 2021 Phase 2: Padikkal’s inclination for Test cricket could very well come from his time spent with Virat Kohli, who is the captain of RCB and the India team. Kohli is a staunch supporter of the longest format of the game with the Indian team registering some of their greatest victories overseas during his tenure. In fact, the Indian captain also believes in his teammate’s ability, and had requested for the Karnataka batsman as one of the replacements after Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal were ruled out due to injury.
Padikkal and Kohli have formed a strong pair at the top of the order and will be keen to continue their good form when the IPL resumes on September 19. When quizzed, whether the break will have any bearing, Padikkal responded, “It is almost like we are continuing the tournament again, it does not feel like that we have had a long break because we have had enough cricket. It does not feel like a huge break and it is just about continuing with the momentum we had in the first phase of the season.”
