IPL 2021 Phase 2: Like captain Kohli, RCB star Devdutt Padikkal also views Test cricket as the ultimate goal – Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star Devdutt Padikkal reveals that he has a list of goals to fulfil in his career and play Test cricket for India. The elegant left-hander made his white-ball debut for India in the series against Sri Lanka in August but has sights on playing the longest format of the game for his country. Padikkal has been one of the rising stars of IPL and has been mightily impressive ever since he made his debut last year.

Speaking to Danish Sait, Devdutt Padikkal reveals his aspirations to play Test cricket for India, considering it the pinnacle of the sport, a view shared by his captain Virat Kohli. When quizzed about his list of goals as he progresses further in his career, Padikkal said, “For me there are a lot of goals in life. Obviously, playing Test cricket for India is the ultimate one. Also, I want to win the IPL, win the World Cup, and all other trophies. For me the main goal is to win trophies, to be part of champion sides, and it is always someting that I have looked up to. Hopefully, it is something that I can do with RCB and the Indian team as my career goes on.”

IPL 2021 Phase 2: Padikkal’s inclination for Test cricket could very well come from his time spent with Virat Kohli, who is the captain of RCB and the India team. Kohli is a staunch supporter of the longest format of the game with the Indian team registering some of their greatest victories overseas during his tenure. In fact, the Indian captain also believes in his teammate’s ability, and had requested for the Karnataka batsman as one of the replacements after Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal were ruled out due to injury.

Padikkal and Kohli have formed a strong pair at the top of the order and will be keen to continue their good form when the IPL resumes on September 19. When quizzed, whether the break will have any bearing, Padikkal responded, “It is almost like we are continuing the tournament again, it does not feel like that we have had a long break because we have had enough cricket. It does not feel like a huge break and it is just about continuing with the momentum we had in the first phase of the season.”
