IPL 2021: From Adil Rashid to Wanindu Hasaranga, 10 players who received maiden call-ups for IPL- Check out: The second phase of IPL 2021 is all set to kick-off from September 19 in UAE. As quite some players have backed out of the remaining matches of the tournament, the cash-rich league has seen the incoming of many new players in the league. From England’s Adil Rashid to Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga, here are ten players who received their maiden call up for the IPL. Collectively, there are nine overseas players and one Indian player who will feature in IPL for the first time.

The franchises had to make changes till the eleventh hour as many players backed out just days ahead of the commencement of the second leg in UAE. While some players cited personal reasons, few are battling fitness. While there is yet another lot of players who are focusing on the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 scheduled in October, just days after the IPL.

Adil Rashid

The England spinner, Adil Rashid has been included in Punjab Kings’ side as a replacement for the Australian pacer Jhye Richardson. The English leg spinner has been roped in as Richardson continues to suffer from injury issues. The 33-year old holds impressive numbers with the ball in the T20s. The experienced player has played 194 innings, taken 232 wickets and has an economy of 7.43.

George Garton

England uncapped player Geroge Garton has been signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the absence of Australian cricketer Kane Richardson. The left-arm pacer has featured in nine matches in The Hundred and scalped ten wickets. Besides, his performance in the T20 Blast this year was no less where he picked up nine wickets from six games at an economy of 7.50.

Tim David

The first player from Singapore to make it to IPL, Tim David has been announced as a replacement for New Zealand’s Finn Allen in Royal Challengers Bangalore. Primarily known for his batting, David has a fine average of 35.50 in the T20s. He has played 55 innings and aggregated 1420 runs in the shortest format of the game.

Wanindu Hasaranga

The Sri Lankan spinner- Wanindu Hasaranga has come as a replacement to Australia’s Adam Zampa in the Royal Challengers Bangalore side. His leg-spin bowling made the headlines after his impressive performances during the T20I series against India where he emerged as the player of the series as well.

Glenn Phillips

Rajasthan Royals have included New Zealand keeper-batsman Glenn Phillips for the remainder of the IPL 2021. He has come as a replacement to Jofra Archer, however, he is all likely to take place of Jos Buttler (who is also unavailable) in the squad. The right-handed batsman has played 138 T20 innings and aggregated 3998 runs. He has a fine average of 33.04.

Nathan Ellis

Punjab Kings have announced the inclusion of Australian fast bowler Nathan Ellis in Riley Meredith’s absence. Ellis became the talk of the town in the recent series against Bangladesh where he became the first cricketer to secure a hattrick on debut.

Ben Dwarshius

The uncapped Australian bowler, Dwarshuis has been announced as a replacement to England player Chris Woakes in the Delhi Capitals squad for the rest of the 2021 IPL season. A hard-hitting lower-order batsman and a left-arm pacer, Ben Dwarshius plays for Sydney Sixers in the BBL.

Aiden Markram

The South African batsman has come in as a replacement to Dawid Malan in Punjab Kings’ side. He has represented his country in the shortest format of the series and has an average of 35.5. He can be a boon to the red brigade and up their position in the points table in the remaining matches of the tournament. Besides, he has aggregated a total of 1424 runs in 53 innings. He has a fine average of 30.95 in the T20 format.

Dushmantha Chameera

RCB have signed Sri Lanka’s pacer Dushmantha Chameera to their side in the absence of Australian player Daniel Sams. Much like Hasaranga, Chameera hogged the spotlight for his fine bowling in the series against India. The lanky pacer gets some breakthroughs and his economy hovers around 7.5 in the shortest format of the game.

Akash Deep

The medium-pacer from Bengal, Akash Deep was included in RCB’s squad as a replacement to Washington Sundar. He was a net bowler for RCB for the first half of IPL 2021.
