They may be up against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday in a do-or-die clash but football is what kept them together with Shubman Gill donning the refereeing role.
Even though cricketers, football is a popular sport amongst them and as the franchise hails from the land of Indian football, they love to play the sport. The intra-squad football match was happening when thousands of supporters of Mohammedan SC, one of the oldest Indian clubs, thronged ticket counters for the Durand Cup final against FC Goa.
IPL 2021, KKR vs SRH: Kolkata Knight Riders didn’t leave the opportunity to sharpen their football skills. But it was Shubman Gill who trashed most of the moves with a whistle in his mouth as he donned the refereeing role in KKR’s intra-squad football match.

IPL 2021, KKR vs SRH: And KKR’s Kiwi coach Brendan McCullum rolled past his wards even in the football match like he did with the bat during his playing days for New Zealand and KKR. His skills and dribbles stunned the KKR stars.
But then there was Shubman Gill, who decided to take the refereeing role but continued to play favouritism and even offered to award Nitish Rana & Co a penalty if he could go close to the box.
IPL 2021, KKR vs SRH: The fun aside ahead of the 130th edition of Durand Cup, KKR needed such light-hearted moments before a crucial match against SRH. Placed 4th on the points table with 10 points from 12 games, KKR could still qualify if they win both matches and keep their net run rate better than PBKS, RR and MI.
