He achieved the landmark while playing against Sunrisers Hyderabad in KKR’s do-or-die encounter. The stylish batsman needed just 5 runs to reach the magical figure. He completed 4000 runs in 209 matches that included 19 fifties. Karthik, who is a vital cog of KKR, bats a strike rate of 130+. In his illustrious IPL career, Dinesh Karthik has played for Delhi Daredevils, Gujarat Lions, Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
- Karthik is the second-wicket keeper after MS Dhoni to complete 4000 runs.
- He can go past former KKR captain Gautam Gambhir with around 200 runs to enter the top 10 list of IPL most run-scorers ever.
- Overall, he is the 8th Indian player to achieve the landmark
“I was practising a lot when I was doing commentary. It was just one of those days where I got lucky. This is not a game where you take the game deep. You create opportunities by using the crease and you play your shots. I think you need to be flexible. Fingers crossed for the next game,” Karthik said post-match.
