IPL 2021: Australian players in IPL and their impact on teams – The IPL 2021 phase 2 is just around the corner and the franchises are yet to submit their squads with BCCI. The deadline is August 20 but it is most likely that the franchises will not be able to finalise their squad by the deadline as many foreign players especially Australian players are yet to confirm their participation in the cash-rich league’s latest edition. Cricket Australia has left it with the players to decide whether they want to play IPL or not. From Glenn Maxwell to Adam Zampa and Jay Richardson there are as many as 18 Australians who are part of an IPL franchise.

Chennai Super Kings

  • Jason Behrendorff/ Josh Hazelwood

Chennai Super Kings replaced Josh Hazelwood with Jason Behrendorff. Josh played three matches in IPL 2020 for CSK where he picked just one wicket and bowled with an economy of 6.40. Jason Behrendorff will be playing for CSK for the first time early he played for MI in 2019. 

Rajasthan Royals

  • Andrew Tye

Australia’s Andrew Tye won the purple cap playing for Kings XI Punjab in 2018. Rajasthan acquired the services of Tye ahead of IPL 2021 but did not feature in a single game in the first phase. The right-arm pacer has 40 IPL wickets to his name from 27 matches.

Punjab Kings

  • Riley Meredith 
  • Moises Henriques 
  • Jhye Richardson 

If Australian players decide to pull out of the IPL 2021 phase 2 then KL Rahul’s Punjab will be the 2nd most hard-hit side as they have as many as 3 Aussies in their squad. They acquired the services of Riley Meredith and Jhye Richardson in the IPL 2021 auction. Riley Meredith has played five matches for PBKS where he picked up four whiches. 

With close to a thousand runs and a high score of 74, Moises Henriques was snapped by Punjab Kings in the 2021 IPL auction for INR 4.2 Cr. He if pulls out of IPL 2021 it will be a big loss PBKS. Another Australian in KL’s side, Jhye Richardson has played three matches with three wickets to his name. 

Delhi Capitals

  • Marcus Stoinis
  • Steve Smith

IPL 2020’s runnerup have two Australian players in the squad in the name of Marcus Stoinis and Steve Smith. In the first phase, Stoinis played eight games where he scored 71 runs and took two wickets. While Smith also had an average season with 106 runs in six games in phase 1.

Mumbai Indians

  • Chris Lynn
  • Nathan Coulter-Nile

Chris Lynn has warmed the bench in IPL 2021, he played just one game where he scored 49 runs and was replaced by Quinton de Kock. While Nathan Coulter-Nile has also played just one game in this year’s IPL. Mumbai Indians will not be affected if these two players pull out.

Kolkata Knight Riders

  • Pat Cummins
  • Ben Cutting

Pat Cummins was the costliest by of the IPL 2021 auction. KKR had put a lot of faith in him throughout the first phase. He was productive with the bat as well as with the ball. He picked up nine wickets and scored important 93 runs in seven games in IPL 2021 phase 2. 

Sunrisers Hyderabad

  • David Warner
  • Mitchell Marsh

Former SRH captain David Warner is one of the most important players in Hyderabad’s team. Warner has been their top scorer for the last few seasons. If he pulls out of the league then it will be a near-impossible task for SRH to find a replacement for him. Mitchell Marsh is another Australian name in the list however he has not played for SRH in this season.

Royal Challengers Banglore

  • Adam Zampa
  • Glenn Maxwell
  • Kane Richardson
  • Dan Christian

Virat Kohli’s RCB will be the most hard-hit team in IPL 2021 if Australian stars decide to pull out. Their biggest buy Glenn Maxwell has delivered while Kane Richardson, Dan Christian and Adam Zampa are yet to deliver in IPL 2021. However, all these players will want to play in IPL as it is taking place in UAE where ICC T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place later this year.
