IPL 2021: 10 batting records that can be broken/ achieved in IPL 2021 Phase 2 – The IPL 2021 Phase 2 is just a little over a month away as teams have already begun preparation for the cash-rich tournament. The tournament will feature some of the best batsmen around the globe, with Virat Kohli, David Warner, Shikhar Dhawan all having a point to prove in the tournament.

1. Most 50s in an IPL season

David Warner currently holds the record for most fifties in a solitary season having crossed the mark nine times during the 2016 IPL season. Should they continue their Phase 1 form when IPL resumes in September, KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis will be in contention for the record. The two openers have already scored four 50+ scores this season in just seven innings and could be the ones to breach Warner at the top of the list.

2. Most 4s in an IPL season

Only 4 players have hit 80+ fours in an IPL season, with David Warner (88) leading the list with Sachin Tendulkar (86), Virat Kohli (83) and Michael Hussey (81). The quartet could soon have company if Shikhar Dhawan continues to be at his imperious best in the IPL 2021 Phase 2. Dhawan holds the record for the most number of boundaries in IPL history and having hit 43 already this season, the Capitals opener could very soon join Warner and Co in the list.

3. Most instances of scoring 500+ runs a season

David Warner has scored more than 500 runs in six seasons in the IPL, the most by a player. However, the RCB captain could qual the record, it manages to cross that mark in IPL 2021. Shikhar Dhawan could match up to Virat Kohli’s record of five, and needs only 120 runs more this season to do so.

4. 5500 run club

Three cricketers could make it to the 5500 run club in the IPL during the IPL 2021, joining RCB captain Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan. Suresh Raina has just nine runs away from the milestone, while Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma is 20 runs away from reaching that mark. David Warner is also in contention and is just 53 runs away, and could become the fastest to the mark if he does so in Phase 2.

5. Most ducks

Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan Singh, Ajinkya Rahane and Ambati Rayudu are all fighting to not make an unwanted record as they are all tied for scoring the most ducks in IPL history. Each of the aforementioned names having 13 ducks to their names, and another score of zero will see them top the list.

6. Most centuries in IPL

Chris Gayle holds the record for the most centuries in IPL history, having hit six so far. Virat Kohli could equal that with a century in Phase 2, having scored five in his IPl career to date. Incidentally, should Kohli reach three figures, he will become the player with most centuries scored for a single team, going past Gayle’s 5 centuries for RCB.

7. 250 sixes in IPL

AB de Villiers could become only the second cricketer to hit 250 sixes in IPL history if he hits five in Phase 2 of the IPL. Gayle currently is the only cricketer with over 250 sixes, and his former RCB teammate could soon join him. Rohit Sharma, who leads all Indians in the list, needs 26 more to breach the mark, and a good Phase 2 could also see him close in on the mark.

8. 1000 runs vs a team

Rohit Sharma has the chance to script history on September 23, when Mumbai Indians take on Kolkata Knight Riders. The Hit-Man has the record for the most runs scored against a single team, and with 18 runs, he could become the first to cross the 1000-run mark against the two-time rivals. Virat Kohli and David Warner could also achieve the feat if they score 91 and 57 against Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings respectively.

9. Most 50+ scores in IPL

The overall record for most 50+ scores belongs with David Warner, with the Sunrisers Hyderabad captain having scored 50 half-centuries and hit four hundreds in the IPL so far. Next on the list are Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli with 46 and 45 each, and the duo could become the first Indian player to cross the milestone in IPL 2021 Phase 2. Dhawan has 44 fifties and 2 centuries, while Kohli has 40 50s and five 100s.

10. Fastest Indian to 3000 runs

KL Rahul could become the fastest Indian to reach 3000 IPL runs, with the Punjab Kings captain having scored 2978 runs in 79 innings so far. Currently, Suresh Raina holds the record having reached the milestone in 103 innings for Chennai Super Kings. Should Rahul complete it in Phase 2, he’ll be the second-fastest overall to the mark, with Chris Gayle having achieved the mark in 75 innings.
