In a sigh of relief for the Australian cricket team, Marnus Labuschagne has been given a clean bill of health after concerns arose about a potential finger fracture during the ongoing first Test against Pakistan.
Marnus Labuschagne, Australia’s dependable No.3 batsman, underwent scans on the little finger of his right hand after being struck by a delivery from debutant paceman Khurram Shahzad on the third day at Optus Stadium in Perth.
The blow, part of a late short-ball barrage, caused discomfort for Labuschagne, who continued to play but was eventually dismissed for two runs by Shahzad.
The possibility of a finger fracture raised concerns for Australia, as Labuschagne’s pivotal role in the batting lineup makes him a key asset. A potential injury could have forced a reshuffle in the order with four Tests remaining in the summer.

Fortunately, scans revealed no structural damage to the 29-year-old’s finger. Marnus Labuschagne even participated in batting practice in the nets before the start of play on day four, putting to rest worries about his availability for the match.
A video uploaded on Sunday also showed Marnus Labuschagne facing deliveries in the nets, indicating a positive outcome for the Australian batsman.
An official statement from Cricket Australia confirmed the good news: “An X-ray taken last night did not demonstrate any visible fracture. Marnus was able to bat unhindered in the nets this morning.”
Labuschagne’s return to the nets and his apparent ease while facing deliveries from Lance Morris suggest that the injury has not hampered his ability to contribute to the team.
Teammate Steve Smith, who also faced challenges from Pakistan’s quick Shaheen Afridi on the previous day, resumed batting on Sunday despite being struck by bouncers that required attention to his left arm.
As Labuschagne gear up to continue his contribution, the Australian team looks forward to maintaining its dominance in the ongoing Test against Pakistan.
