Former England pacer Stuart Broad has revealed that Ben Stokes would join Brendon McCullum as the coach for ENG vs SL series. The England skipper has been ruled out of the rest of England’s summer after suffering a hamstring injury during The Hundred. Broad revealed that Stokes had texted him saying he would be joining Baz as coach for the series.
Ben Stokes to turn into England coach?
Speaking to PA News Agency, Broad defended Stokes’ decision to play The Hundred, noting that a player couldn’t simply play the 1st Test against Sri Lanka directly after the last game against West Indies.
“He’s already texted me saying he’s going to be the coach so I don’t know what Baz (Brendon McCullum) is going to be doing,” Broad told the PA News Agency.
Broad said that despite Stokes spending less time in the middle during The Hundred, it allowed him to exercise his mental sharpness while playing alongside other great minds.
The former England pacer noted that Stokes hadn’t bowled for over a year now and has only batted. Broad noted that the series against Sri Lanka will also give an opportunity to find a better alternative for Ben Stokes.
