Infuriated Ben Stokes asks ‘Umpire’s Call’ to be scrapped after controversial DRS call in Rajkot Test

IND vs ENG Rajkot Test: Ben Stokes calls for scrapping Umpire's call after unfortunate Zac Crawley dismissal in Rajkot Test

England Cricket Team skipper Ben Stokes has claimed that umpire’s call should be removed in DRS calls. The incident has grabbed light after Zac Crawley’s wicket in the second innings of the IND vs ENG Rajkot Test. The English opener was dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah.

The HawkEye showed that the ball would have missed the stumps. But since the on field umpire has given out, therefore the batter was dismissed by DRS, citing umpire’s call. “We just wanted some clarity around Zak’s DRS when the images came back,” Ben Stokes told TalkSport.

“The ball is quite clearly missing the stump on the replay. So when it gets given umpire’s call and the ball’s not actually hitting the stumps, we were a bit bemused. So we just wanted some clarity from the Hawk-Eye guys,” Stokes added.

The incident took place in the 9th over of England’s second innings. On field umpire Kumar Dharamasena gave out on India’s appeal. But the English batter reviewed the decision. DRS revealed that the ball was missing the stumps, but the batter had to leave owing to Umpire’s call.

This incident has greatly infuriated the England camp. As a result, this has prompted Ben Stokes to come out and claim that the Umpire’s call should be abolished in DRS calls.

“It came back saying the numbers, or whatever it is that is, it was saying that it was hitting the stumps but it was the projection that was wrong. I don’t know what that means. Something’s gone wrong, so, yeah. It’s not me blaming that on what’s happened here, like I didn’t last week. It’s just… what’s going on?,” Stokes concluded.
