INDW vs ENGW Test: India batters make merry on a record opening day

INDW vs ENGW Test: Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and opted to have a bat first on a good-looking Wankhede track.

INDW vs ENGW Test: Some spirited performance from the likes of Yastika Bhatia, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma and Subha Satheesh meant that India Women finish Day 1 on a high against the England Women in the one-off Test on Thursday. Opting to bat first, Indian batters made the most of the flat deck as they posted their highest total on Day 1 of a women’s Test match.

India Women suffered two blows before breaching the 50-run mark as both openers Shafali Verma (19 runs) and Smriti Mandhana (17 runs) failed to get going. The Indian ship was then steadied by Jemimah Rodrigues and Subha Satheesh as they both completed fine fifties with the bat and also put on a 100-run partnership for the third wicket.

Both Rodrigues and Satheesh then fell in quick succession with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Yastika Bhatia in middle for INDW. The duo of Harmanpreet and Yastika then stitched another 100+ run partnership as the home side crossed the 300-run mark on Day 1 in the INDW vs ENGW Test.

Yastika Bhatia (66 runs) went on to complete fifty. However, skipper Harmanpreet got unlucky as she was run-out on 49 runs. After losing Yastika and Harmanpreet, Deepti Sharma and Sneh Rana held the fort for the home side. While Deepti completed a fifty, Sneh Rana was dismissed on 30 runs. At the end of Day 1 in INDW vs ENGW, Deepti remained unbeaten for her 60 runs, while Pooja Vastrakar is not out on four runs.
