Indore Pitch Rating: BCCI vs ICC – Despite widespread condemnation of preparing an uncooked pitch in IND vs AUS Indore Test, BCCI is not happy with ICC’s decision. BCCI is all set to challenge ICC’s decision on three demerit points. ICC Match Referee Chris Broad rated Indore pitch at the Holkar Stadium “poor”. ICC swiftly took action and gave three demerit points to Indore. India Cricket Team lost the 3rd Test in Indore within 7 sessions with 31 wickets falling on a track that turned from Day 1. But taking a lead out of PCB’s book, BCCI is all set to challenge ICC’s decision. Follow India vs Australia LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.

Pakistan Cricket Board challenged ICC’s decision last year when Rawalpindi’s pitch for Pakistan vs England was deemed “below average”. A total of 1768 runs were scored on the pitch. But PCB got the decision overturned. As per norms, BCCI has 14 days to appeal a decision by the ICC on pitch and demerit points.

“We will take stock of the situation and decide,” a BCCI official said while adding that the pitch was not up to mark. There has been also talk of firing the curator.

“The pitch, which was very dry, did not provide a balance between bat and ball, favouring spinners from the start. The fifth ball of the match broke through the pitch surface and continued to occasionally break the surface providing little or no seam movement and there was excessive and uneven bounce throughout the match,” Cris Broad said of the Indore pitch.

ICC Pitch Ratings: It is mandatory for the match referees to report to the ICC on the pitch. While rating a pitch, referees consider outfield and the pitch. The ratings help ICC to prepare future pitches. 5 demerit points in a five-year period attract a 12-month ban on the venue.

“A pitch or outfield is deemed to be substandard if it receives a rating of poor or unfit. Sanctions may be applied by ICC to a venue that presents a substandard pitch or outfield for international cricket,” ICC states.

In the first two days of the Test, 30 wickets fell with the ball turning with a puff of dust from Day 1. With such horrendous conditions, India suffered their first defeat at home since Chennai Test against England.

It was just on Day 1, 2nd session when Ravindra Jadeja’s delivery (20.3 ovs) to Usman Khawaja took a sharp turn with a puff of dust coming off the surface. Within two and a half days or 7 sessions, 31 wickets fell and more importantly, it was Indian batters who struggled the most. While Indian fans mocked Australians and Aussie media for pointing out pitch concerns, even they have now turned against the Indore pitch.
