India’s World Cup 2023 Squad: Check Jasprit Bumrah & Co.’s exploits in WCs so far

The Jasprit Bumrah-led attack has experienced campaigners in Shami and Jadeja, who'll be playing in their 3rd ODI World Cup, as well as young guns like Axar Patel, Siraj, and Shardul, who will make their ODI World Cup debut.

With the last date to announce their squad on September 5, the BCCI named India’s 15-man World Cup 2023 squad, which had little to no surprises. Interestingly, only five Indian bowlers have played in the ODI World Cup before. With the event starting on October 5, let’s take a look at how the Indian bowlers have performed in the biggest cricket tournament.

World Cup 2023 Squad: Indian spearhead Jasprit Bumrah’s performance in past editions

Jasprit Bumrah has played 9 matches in the ODI World Cup. The right-arm pacer has 18 wickets in these matches, at a bowling average of 20.61, a strike rate of 28, and an economy of 4.41. The pacer also has a 4-wicket haul in the tournament.

Bumrah is the 5th highest wicket-taker in the 2019 World Cup and the 3rd highest wicket-taker for India among active players.

Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami has played in the last two editions of the ODI World Cup (2015 and 2019). The pacer has played 11 matches in the event, picking up 31 wickets at a bowling average of 15.70, a strike rate of 18.6, and an economy of 5.06. Shami also has three 4-wicket hauls and one 5-wicket haul in 11 matches.

Currently, Shami is India’s highest wicket-taker among active players and India’s 3rd highest wicket-taker of all time in the event.
