Rinku Singh made a impressive start to his international career as the batter played a quickfire innings in the IND vs IRE 2nd T20I at Village Stadium on Sunday. Coming in at number five, Rinku scored a quick-fire 38 off 21 balls, hitting 2 fours and 3 sixes, to power India to 185 for 5 in 20 overs. He came at the crease when India were 105/3.

Rinku, who had made his debut in the first T20I but did not get a chance to bat, showed no signs of nerves as he took on the Irish bowlers with confidence and aggression. He put up a 55 in just 28 balls with Shivam Dube to power India to a good total. He was dismissed in the last over by Craig Young, but not before he had done enough damage to the Irish hopes.

A remarkable rise

Rinku’s rise to international cricket has been a remarkable story of overcoming poverty. Despite years of financial struggle, Rinku made his first-class debut for Uttar Pradesh in 2016 and caught the attention of IPL scouts with his consistent performances in domestic cricket.

He was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018 and became one of their key players in IPL 2023. The 24-year-old scored 474 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 149.52.

Rinku’s exploits in IPL earned him a maiden call-up for India’s tour of Ireland. With his impressive knock, Rinku has put his hands up in contention for T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in West Indies and United States.
