India’s lone saviour: From Kennington Oval to Rajkot, Rohit Sharma stands tall against adversary

IND vs ENG 3rd Test: Be it at Kennington Oval or Rajkot, Rohit Sharma overpowers England with stunning century

It takes a special batter, a special innings to become the lone saviour for the nation. And India Cricket Team’s captain Rohit Sharma provided just that. Be it sensation 127 at Kennington Oval or the 131 at Rajkot, Rohit Sharma has set precedence for himself and the team.

Back in 2021, India toured England. The visitors took a 2-1 lead before the 5th Test got cancelled owing to Covid-19 Pandemic. 2.5 years later, this time in Rajkot, Rohit Sharma yet again slammed a ton to help India take the driving seat in the IND vs ENG 3rd Test.

Only one thing has changed since 2021. Back then Virat Kohli was the captain, and now Rohit Sharma is. Interestingly, in this series, star batter Virat Kohli is absent owing to personal reasons. India headed into the game at 1-1. After India’s early collapse, 33-3, Rohit Sharma steadied the ship.

He stitched a stunning partnership of 204 runs with Ravindra Jadeja. “Cometh the hour, Cometh the Man”, Rohit Sharma came all guns blazing. Often criticised for not scoring big runs, he came to his team’s aid, when India needed him the most.

Back in 2021, at Kennington Oval, Rohit Sharma’s 127 is of immense importance. He became one of India’s chief architect for beating England by 157 runs. India were bowled for just 191 in the first innings, to which England replied with 290.

Rohit Sharma hammered 127, with crucial additions from Kohli, Pujaraa, Pant and Shardul. India ended their second innings on 466. England were ultimately bowled for 210.

Be it overseas or at home, Rohit Sharma has been India’s saviour time and again, especially when the team is in dire need of someone to step up.
