Indian fans under scanner once again, Pakistan captain Babar Azam’s Wikipedia page vandalised

Babar Azam, who is under fire after team's poor performance in the tournament, was subjected to brutal troll on Thursday.

The Indian cricket fans’ unruly behaviour in the stands have been a hot topic of the ongoing World Cup 2023 in recent weeks. Amidst this, another shocking incident has come to light which has once again put the cricket on the back stage. Pakistan cricket team captain, Babar Azam, who is under fire after team’s dismal performance in the tournament, was subjected to troll on Thursday.

A troller edited Babar’s Wikipedia page and included ‘Zimbabar’ as one of cricketer’s nickname. The term was originally made up by Pakistani fans’ who claimed that the 29-year-old only score against teams like Zimbabwe, and other smaller nations.

“Mohammad Babar Azam, also known as Zimbabar, is a Pakistani international cricketer and captain of the Pakistan national cricket team in all formats, and is widely regarded as one of the finest batters in contemporary world cricket”, the troll wrote on Babar’s original Wikipedia page.

The changes were later deleted and the page was restored to its original form.

While it is not known who made the changes in Wikipedia, Pakistan fans have claimed that an Indian cricket fan has edited Pakistan skipper’s wikipedia page.

Earlier, Pakistan wicketkeeper Mohammed Rizwan was trolled by Indian fans with “Jai Shree Ram” chants during IND vs PAK match in Ahmedabad.

Babar Azam’s captaincy under threat

While Babar Azam has played few decent knocks in the ongoing World Cup, his captaincy has come under heavy scutiny and many former cricketers have criticised the skipper’s approach.

Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi blasted Babar after team’s defeat against Afghanistan and said that Babar needs to learn how to apply pressure on the batters with attacking field set.

It is the captain’s job to apply pressure, a pacer is bowling and there is no slip? Four are required on 12 balls and you’ve taken backward point? Apply pressure. What do the Australians do? They take one to two wickets and then put all of their players in the circle to apply pressure, like they did against Pakistan,” Afridi was quoted as saying to a local newspaper.

The Men in Green will next face in-form South Africa on October 27 at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.

Pakistan Squad: Babar Azam (c), Shadab Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Abdullah Shafique, Mohammad Rizwan, Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar Ahmed, Salman Ali Agha, Mohammad Nawaz, Usama Mir, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Wasim.
