Ravichandran Ashwin hung up his boots after serving Indian cricket for many years, always stepping up when the team needed him. After the third Test match between India and Australia, he announced that December 18, 2024, would be his last day as an international cricketer. Ashwin, who first came onto the Indian scene in 2010 against Sri Lanka in Harare, soon became a part of the World Champions when Team India won the 2011 ODI World Cup at home and then 2013 Champions Trophy, also gradually he became a core member of the Test team as well. His Test career truly boomed after 2015.
After serving the team for so long, he ended his career Down Under with 106 caps, 537 wickets, and 3503 runs. However, Ashwin is not the only Indian cricketer who retired this year. The new addition is R Ashwin, who retired recently, on December 18, 2024, after an illustrious career. We saw live visuals from the Indian pavilion where Virat Kohli hugged Ashwin. Slowly, the speculations started, and then Ashwin himself came to the press conference to announce his retirement after serving Indian cricket for 14 years, with 537 Test wickets, making him India’s second-highest wicket-taker, and many wickets in the white-ball format as well, showcasing how big this player is.
Shikhar Dhawan
Dhawan, known for his aggressive batting, retired on August 24, 2024, at 38. He scored 24 international centuries and played key roles in tournaments like the Champions Trophy and World Cup.
