Sample this, out of an 18-member original squad for the Bangladesh tour, only 13 players are currently fit. Rishabh Pant and Mohammad Shami were ruled out even before the series began. Although Rohit Sharma suffered an unfortunate injury, Deepak Chahar is back at the NCA again with a hamstring injury. Even skipper Rohit Sharma expressed his frustration regarding injuries.
“I agree with Rohit. Things are not alright. We are in the process of overhauling sports science department at the NCA. But that cannot be an excuse for the lapses in injury management. President Binny has made it a priority and we are looking to manage it better. And of course those who are in charge will be questioned,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

Team India support staff faces heat
In particular, Soham Desai and Nitin Patel will face the heat. Desai who is India’s strength & conditioning coach is under fire for his role in Bangladesh. On the tour, India have lose Deepak Chahar to yet another hamstring injury. Apart from him, Rishabh Pant and Kuldeep Sen are also out injured. Post the Bangladesh series, CAC will review strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai’s role.
Back in India, Nitin Patel rushed Jasprit Bumrah’s return. As a result, an unfit Bumrah missed the T20 World Cup. Deepak Chahar’s repeated injuries are also a big red flag for the BCCI. Rohit also questioned NCA’s role, saying players cannot represent India half-fit.
“I mean there are definitely a few injury concerns. We need to try and get to the bottom of it. I don’t know what exactly it is. Maybe they’re playing too much cricket. We need to try and monitor those guys because it’s important to understand when they come for India, they need to be a 100%, in fact more than 100%. They cannot represent India half-fit,” Rohit said after India’s loss to Bangladesh in 2nd ODI.

Team India’s fielding standards have also come under the scanner with fielding coach TK Dileep expected to face the heat. India’s standards have gone down by a mile under TK Dileep. With frequent dropped chances, misfields, India are one of the worst fielding sides at the moment. Under R Sridhar, India were one of the top fielding sides. Dilip, who joined Team India from the NCA will also face the music.
“Of course, the fielding standards have gone down. The CAC is in place now and if they need to take any call on Dilip, it will be on the table. For now, the focus is on the Test series. Once they return home, we will discuss the way forward,” the BCCI official said.

Before the start of the Bangladesh series, India lost the services of pacer Mohammad Shami and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant due to injuries. Post the first two matches the number of injuries increased. After Kuldeep Sen, Team India saw skipper Rohit Sharma and Deepak Chahar were ruled out of the series due to injuries.
