As per reports from ESPNcricinfo, the BCCI sought to appoint Gary Kirsten as the head coach of the Indian Women’s team. However, that couldn’t happen with the Proteas coach being busy with IPL and other league appointments. While the search for a big international name is always on the top for the checklist, and therefore the BCCI continue their hunt for a desirable name.

Amol Mazumdar is also said to be in contention to take the post. He is joined by the current interim head coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar who took over the reins to guide Harmanpreet Kaur and her girls when Ramesh Powar left the role back in last December to join the National Cricket Academy as the spin bowling coach under the great VVS Laxman.

As far as the big international name goes, Charlotte Edwards have joined the race only recently. It remains to be seen if the BCCI decides to go forward with the World Cup winning captain from England. Recently, Edwards headed the Mumbai Indians squad in the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

It is assumed that the new coach will be given a two-year contract by the BCCI. It should be noted that two major ICC events are in the horizon and the Women in Blue are keen to put up a strong performance. In the next two year span, the major ICC events include the likes of the T20 World Cup 2024 set to be held in Bangladesh and the 2025 World Cup in India.
