India will stick with Dhruv Jurel and won’t rush Rishabh Pant back, asserts Brad Hogg

Dhruv Jurel has been in fantastic form in the ongoing IND vs ENG Test series and will not make it easy for Pant to come back into the Indian team after the long layoff.

Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg feels India will make a mistake if the team management tries to rush Rishabh Pant back into action. The former chinaman asserted that India will stick with young batter-keeper Dhruv Jurel in the near future and provide time to Pant to bring his game up to speed.

Dhruv Jurel has been in fantastic form in the ongoing IND vs ENG Test series. Making his debut in the IND vs ENG 3rd Test, the keeper-batter scored 46 in the first innings. Jurel moved from strength to strength in the IND vs ENG 4th Test, scoring 90 runs in the first innings and guiding India home with a gritty 39 not out in the 2nd.

Pant, on the other hand is trying hard to make his comeback to competitive cricket in IPL 2024. The southpaw suffered a fatal car accident in December, 2022 and has been out of the reckoning for more than a year. However, Pant will lead the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024 and is preparing to get back to the cricket field.

However, former Aussie spinner Brad Hogg said India in all probability will ask Rishabh Pant to play some domestic cricket to prepare himself for the rigours of International cricket.

Speaking in a video on his YouTube channel, Hogg said, “I think they will keep with Jurel and not go back to Pant quickly. I think they will make him go and play some first-class cricket in the longest format so that they make sure his body can withstand it and make sure from a batting perspective he still has the ability that he had before the accident.

I really hope that Pant gets back to playing Test cricket, but I feel it is a huge risk if they rush him back,” Hogg said.
