‘India will drop…’ R Ashwin tells why Bazball can’t work for Rohit Sharma & Co

England haven't lost a series after adopting the 'Bazball' approach.

Ace Indian spinner R Ashwin has stated that selectors and national team supporters will not support players who want to live and die by the Bazball method because India’s cricketing culture does not support players who have poor performances.

R Ashwin on his YouTube channel explained why Bazball could be effective for the English cricket team but would not be appropriate in an Indian setting.

“We are playing Test cricket very well. But we will go through a transition soon. And things won’t be easy during that phase. There will be a few issues here and there. But let’s assume India adopts Bazball during this phase. Let us assume a player throws his bat at everything like Harry Brook and gets out and we lose two Test matches. What will we do? Will we back Bazball and the players?,” asked Ashwin.

“We will drop at least four players from our starting XI,” he continued.

“Our culture has always been that way. We cannot adopt another player’s style of play simply because it was successful for them. Because their management fully supports this form of play and because their selections encourage it, it works for them. In truth, the team has the support of the spectators and the people who watch Test matches. But we are not able to.”

After that, R Ashwin discussed the ICC 2023 ODI World Cup, saying that the Indian squad needs positive support from the public and fans throughout the competition.

“Winning a World Cup is not easy guys. Just because we play a certain player or drop a certain player, we can’t win. All of us are hindsight kings. The hindsight operations don’t work here. We have qualified for the semi-final of almost all major tournaments. On that day we haven’t been good enough,” said Ravichandran Ashwin.
