The 24-year-old, suffered an injury in the Pool D match at the Birsa Munda International Stadium on Sunday. According to reports, Hardik has been ruled out due to a hamstring injury.
In India’s games against Spain and England, Hardik Singh was India’s best player in the tournament so far. Sadly, he suffered an injury in the fourth quarter of the Pool D game against England on Sunday in Rourkela and had to be helped off the field.
Rajkumar, a midfielder, and Jugraj Singh, a defender, were Hockey India’s two backups when they unveiled their World Cup roster last month. Rajkumar Pal will take Hardik’s position in India’s 18-man roster if he is fully ruled out of the competition.
According to FIH tournament rules, if one of the 18 wounded players is replaced by a reserve, the injured player is ineligible to participate again in that tournament, even if he recovers.

Hardik, who can also attack, has been India’s linchpin in the middle of the field. On January 13, he demonstrated his abilities by scoring India’s second goal in their 2-0 victory over Spain in the tournament opener.
Hardik had an MRI on Sunday night. The final two Pool D games, between India and Wales and England and Spain, will be played on January 19 in Bhubaneswar. The results of the two matches will determine who wins the pool and advances directly to the quarterfinals.
India and England have each won and drawn their first two games, with England currently leading due to a higher goal differential.
