Former India skipper Virat Kohli surpassed Rohit Sharma, during the first India vs South Africa Test in Centurion, to become the highest run-getter for the team since the inception of the World Test Championship in 2019. With his knock of 38 on Tuesday, Kohli moved to 2101 runs in 57 innings, during the time-frame, while Rohit has 2097 runs in 42 innings
Cheteshawar Pujara, who is not in the squad for India vs South Africa Tests, is third on the list with 1769 runs in 62 innings. Expectedly, Ajinkya Rahane follows him in fourth spot with 1589 runs in 49 innings. Rishabh Pant completes the list in fifth position with 1575 runs in 41 innings.
India vs South Africa, Day One
At the end of day one, India posted 208/8 on the board, as the South African pace battery dominated the proceedings. Kagiso Rabada ended with five wickets, while Nandre Burger claimed two in his debut Test. For India, the only shining light was KL Rahul’s 70 not out.
Meanwhile, apart from Kohli’s 38, Shreyas Iyer scored 31, and Shardul Thakur chipped in with a valuable 24, to take India past 200. Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal were all removed early, without any substantial contributions.
