India vs Select County XI: India’s middle-order batsman Hanuma Vihari has failed to impress in the practice match as skipper Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane were rested. The right-handed batsman failed to make full use of the opportunity and got caught at 24. Notably, Vihari was playing county cricket in England ahead of India’s tour of England but he was left out of the WTC Final against England. He had also failed to score big during India tour of Australia before his injury in the iconic Sydney Test. He had failed to score even a fifty during the Test series but managed to keep his place after saving Sydney Test for India. His last fifty came during the India tour of New Zealand in February last year.

He did not impress during his stint with Warwickshire ahead of the WTC Final, managing just a half-century in 6 outings. Another failure means Hanuma Vihari might sit out of the upcoming opening Test against England starting August 4. He might get another to prove himself during India’s second innings or second practice match. The 27-year-old need to grab the opportunity with both hands in order to prevent his axe from India squad in near future.

Meanwhile, Vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has mild swelling around his left upper hamstring. This has been addressed by an injection. He is not available for the three-day first-class warm-up game. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring him, and he is expected to fully recover well in time for the first Test against England starting from 4th August at Nottingham.  Captain Virat Kohli felt some stiffness in his back on late Monday evening and he has been advised rest from the three-day first-class warm-up game by the BCCI Medical Team.
