India vs SA T20: Who are the likely candidates to lead the squad?
It has been reported that Shikhar Dhawan and Hardik Pandya are being locked in for the captaincy role for the T20I series against South Africa.
“All the senior India players will get at least three and half weeks of complete rest. Rohit, Virat, KL, Rishabh, and Jasprit will all directly go to England for the ‘fifth Test’ following the white-ball series. We need all our key players to remain fresh for the England series,” a senior BCCI source was quoted by PTI on condition of anonymity.
India Squad for SA:
- Selection committee meeting in Ahmedabad or a virtual meeting will be conducted on the eve of IPL Qualifier 1 or Eliminator.
- Squad should be announced thereafter.
- The Chetan Sharma-led team is set to meet Rohit Sharma in person.
- Break to Virat Kohli and few senior members will be discussed.
- Rohit Sharma was keen on going with a full-strength squad in the series. But the BCCI wants some of the team members to rest.
- The team will assemble for a short camp at the NCA on June 4 before flying to Delhi for the 1st T20 on June 9.
“The selectors have a couple of choices. Shikhar Dhawan, as he has already captained India in absence of Virat, Rohit, and Rahul during last year’s Sri Lanka series. But Hardik Pandya’s impressive captaincy for Gujarat Titans hasn’t gone unnoticed. So it will be a close call,” the source added.
