India vs Pakistan Test series in England? After Australia, ECB expresses desire to host arch-rivals

Team India and Pakistan have not played Test cricket against each other in last 17 years.

It isn’t an overstatement to that the rivalry between India and Pakistan is the biggest in cricket. It’s no surprise then that cricket boards around the world are itching to cash in on this mega clash.

ECB to host India vs Pakistan Test?

First, it was Australia who threw their hat in the ring, suggesting a tri-series involving the two cricketing giants Down Under. And now, England has joined the party. Richard Gould, Chief Executive of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), has openly expressed his desire to host an India-Pakistan Test match. Imagine the hype!

During the tea break on Day 1 of the ongoing Test between England and the West Indies, Gould addressed various topics, including the potential for England to host a Test match between India and Pakistan. “Everybody would love that. I wouldn’t say it’s [hosting and India v Pakistan Test] impossible. The politics between the BCCI and the Pakistan Cricket Board are long known, as are the politics between governments. And I find that fascinating,” Gould said.

We were in Sri Lanka over the weekend for ICC meetings, and you see Pakistan cricket supporters and India cricket supporters getting on so well, but as soon as the political element is put in, it creates issues,” he added.

Is India vs Pakistan Test series possible?

Gould, thinks a Test match between these two would be absolutely epic. He’s not wrong. But he also knows it’s easier said than done. Politics, both on and off the field, have kept these two teams apart for far too long. The last time they faced off in a Test match was way back in 2007!

Even Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been dropping hints about wanting a Test match against Pakistan. The fans, of course, are divided. However, if happens, a Test match between these two would be like watching a blockbuster movie – everyone wants to see it.
