Everyone is a Match-Winner
Ahead of the Asia Cup, Afridi posted a tweet where he underlined the credentials of his team and posted in the tweet, “Every player of our playing 11 is a match winner. Wishing my team the best of luck for upcoming Asia Cup.
“To the fans, keep me in your prayers for my quick recovery. I’ll be back soon Inshallah,” Afridi posted.
The Men in Green are one of the favorites for the Tournament alongside India and have a huge talent in the squad despite Afridi’s withdrawal. The Pakistan team still has the likes of Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Haris Rauf and others.
Shaheen Afridi ruled out of Asia Cup
Shaheen Afridi has been ruled out of the Asia Cup, as well as the seven-match T20I series at home against England in September, because of a knee injury. He faces a race against time to be fit for the T20 World Cup, starting October, after being advised “four-six weeks rest” by the PCB’s medical advisory committee.
Afridi sustained the right knee ligament injury during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle last month, and has played no part in the ongoing tour of the Netherlands despite being in the squad. Babar Azam said before the series that Afridi would play no more than one ODI against Netherlands, with a view to having him fit for the Asia Cup, which begins on August 27.

India and Pakistan to headline Asia Cup
Both India and Pakistan are set to headline the tournament with some crunch affairs as they could meet on three occasions. While India have a better head-to-head record against Pakistan in Asia Cup, it is Babar Azam’s side that won the last meeting between the sides in October 2021, at the same venue.
While the factor of unpredictability still remains on who has the upper-hand, India will still be the favorites for a win. A win for Pakistan in the Asia Cup will be their third triumph having previously won in 2000 and most recently in 2012.
