India vs New Zealand: Venkatesh Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad in reckoning as selectors set to name new look Indian squad for New Zealand series: Follow LIVE Updates
India vs New Zealand – India’s Squad New Zealand Series: InsideSport had earlier reported that Rohit Sharma will be named as India’s T20 & ODI captain right after the World Cup but it is yet to be decided whether Rohit will take rest or lead India against the Kiwis. Selectors will speak with Rohit before naming the squad.
’Decision on Rohit will only be taken after having a word with him. He is free to opt for rest but we feel he will be available to lead India’, said one of the top BCCI official.
India vs New Zealand: Venkatesh Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad in reckoning as selectors set to name new look Indian squad for New Zealand series
InsideSport has further learnt that – Venkatesh Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Avesh Khan, Chetan Sakariya will be part of the squad that will take on New Zealand.
Most of the members of the Indian squad playing in World Cup will be rested for the T20 Series.
India vs New Zealand – Rohit Sharma to be new White-Ball Captain: Kohli has already resigned from India’s T20 Captaincy and now in all likelihood his ODI captaincy is also set to be handed over to Rohit. InsideSport is learning from its sources in BCCI, that most of the senior members of the board are of the view that ‘split captaincy for T20 & ODI won’t work’
Selectors will mull over the issue as they will sit to select the team for the home series vs the Kiwis & India’s new captain.
The 50 Over World Cup is scheduled to take place in India in 2023 & next T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022. The BCCI feels to have a different set of captains for both doesn’t make any sense & is in favor of same captain for both ODI & T20 formats.
“3 Captains for 3 formats will create a lot of confusion. We want the flow of ideas & direction to be very smooth. We feel India should have the same ODI & T20 Captain & Rohit Sharma in the current scheme of things is the best choice. Selectors will take the final call in the next meeting. Whatever good is for the Indian cricket, the decision will be taken accordingly,” declared one of the top BCCI officials.
Indian Team for New Zealand Series: When will be the team announced?
As per the sources, selectors are likely to select the team right after India’s last league game against Namibia.
New Zealand Tour to India: India will play Kiwis in T20I on November 17 in Jaipur followed by T20Is on November 19 (Ranchi) and November 21 (Kolkata).
The two Tests are from November 25-29 (Kanpur) and December 3-7 (Mumbai).
India Tour to South Africa: Meanwhile as reported earlier by InsideSport the Indian selectors have already submitted list of 60 probable players for the tour of South Africa in December. The probable list has been prepared in advance to avoid any logistics issue at a later stage.
The list includes the likes of Venkatesh Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Avesh Khan, Chetan Sakariya, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Siraj, Deepak Chahar and others.
The final squad selection will, however, be picked at a later date but certainly from the shortlisted players. India will play three Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is during the tour that runs from December 17 to January 26.
