India vs Australia, Perth Test Vs Report card: Jaiswal, Kohli, Bumrah class toppers

Indian Cricket Team players score top points after crushing Australia in Perth in opening Test of Border Gavaskar Trophy

The India Cricket Team registered a sensational 295-run win against Australia in the opening Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. While India made a sensational comeback after the first innings blip, it is however Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah who steal the headlines.

KL Rahul – 8.5/10

KL Rahul has been brilliant in the Perth Test. He stood strong in the 1st innings, braved the pace attack, and scored 27 runs before being controversially dismissed. But he recovered well in the second innings, scoring a defiant 77-run knock. KL partnered with Jaiswal and the duo scored history by scoring 201 runs opening stand – India’s highest opening stand in Australia.

Yashasvi Jaiswal – 9.5/10

Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his rich vein of form in the BGT. Though he was dismissed for an 8-ball duck, he made amends in the second innings. The young southpaw hammered a sensational 161-run knock to hog all the limelight. And as the 22-year-old youngster continues to flourish, team India will be proud after unearthing a talent like him.

Devdutt Padikkal – 3/10

Devdutt Padikkal has been a disappointment in Perth. He was dismissed for a 23-ball duck in the 1st innings. But in the second innings, he tried his best before falling after scoring 25 runs. With Shubman Gill returning from the Adelaide Test, it remains to be seen if the top-order batter retains his place in the team.

Virat Kohli – 9.5/10

The King made a comeback in Perth, much to the delight of every fan in the country. His innings were shortlived – a 5-run knock in the first innings, before making amends. But Virat Kohli roared back in form with a scintillating unbeaten hundred in the second innings. With that, he registered his first Test ton in the 2024 calendar year. He also surpassed Sachin Tendulkar after scoring 7th Test ton in Australia.

Rishabh Pant – 5/10

Rishabh Pant has a rather mellow outing in Perth. He scored a well-constructed knock of 37 runs in the first innings but squandered his wicket in the 2nd innings after playing a callous shot. In terms of keeping he was good, plucking 6 catches and with a sensational catch off Steve Smith.

Dhruv Jurel – 2/10

Dhruv Jurel had a horrible outing in Perth. While others flourished, the middle-order batter faltered. In the first innings, he managed to score just 11 runs, before departing for a solitary run in the second innings. His place will be up for grabs with Rohit Sharma returning and KL Rahul slotting down the order.

Washington Sundar – 6/10

Off-spinner all-rounder Washinton Sundar had a modest outing in Perth. He was dismissed for 4 runs followed by a 29-run knock in the second. He didn’t get a real chance to bowl in the first innings but bagged 2 wickets in the second when he got the chance.

Nitish Kumar Reddy – 8/10

Nitish Kumar Reddy made the headlines with his big shots and good knocks. In the first innings, he scored a crucial 41-run knock and followed with an unbeaten 38 quick-fire in the second. In terms of the bowling, he was impressive in the chances he got. He bagged a solitary wicket in the second innings.

Harshit Rana – 7.5/10

Another debutant who has good in Perth. In the first innings, the main highlight goes for his exceptional dismissal of Travis Head. He bagged 3 wickets in the first innings and followed it up with a solitary wicket in the second innings.

Jasprit Bumrah – 10/10

Jasprit Bumrah continued his sensational form. Both as the captain and as the leader of the pace attack. He bagged a stunning fifer in the first innings which was his 11th in Test cricket, and his 9th Test fifer away from home. In the second innings, he again tore at the opposition with a 3-wicket haul. Credit goes to Bumrah, captaining India for the second time in Test cricket and winning in Perth.

Mohammed Siraj – 8.5/10

Siraj has been criticized for his poor form in recent times. But the ace pacer rose to the challenge to take the task to the opposition. He bagged a two-wicket haul in the first innings but then ran riot in the second innings where he scalped three wickets. Coupled with Bumrah, the duo ran riot from the very beginning against the Aussies.
