Shubman Gill was named the vice-captain of the side for T20Is and ODIs vs Sri Lanka after leading India to a 4-1 win against Zimbabwe. The swashbuckling opener has 51 runs to his name in two ODI outings against Sri Lanka. With India taking on Sri Lanka in a must-win game, Gill was seen seeking tips from veterans Rohit and Kohli in the nets ahead of the 3rd ODI.
Despite being of just 24 years of age, Shubman Gill is not new to captain. After Hardik Pandya‘s trade off to Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2024, Gill was promoted as the skipper of his side Gujarat Titans. Albeit the team didn’t perform well, the seeds of leadership were planted then.
