India Tour of Sri Lanka: India assistant coach Paras Mhambrey declares, ‘No matter Covid, we were always prepared to play the game’ – Team India lost a close contest against Sri Lanka in the second T20I of the three-match series to level the series 1-1 on Wednesday. India had to play with just five proper batsmen in their ranks but yet the Team was ready to play the game said Team India’s assistant coach Paras Mhambrey after the match in the virtual press conference.
India Tour of Sri Lanka: “The BCCI were in touch with Rahul Dravid and we were told that whatever decision will be taken it will be informed to us. So we were prepared that we might have to go ahead and play the game. So we went ahead with the preparations,” Paras said.
This was India’s first loss against Sri Lanka in the last four T20I games.
India Tour of Sri Lanka: Team India is falling short of players and Navdeep Saini got injured in the 2nd T20I. Giving an update on Saini’s injury he said,” In Navdeep’s case, the medical team is handling him. I think we will assess the situation tonight or maybe in the morning. And take the decision accordingly. I think once the decision is finalised and conveyed to the selectors and the coach we will go ahead and if needed we will make changes.”
India handed four debut caps to Nitish Rana, Chetan Sakariya, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devdutt Padikkal in this game.
India Tour of Sri Lanka: Talking about Ruturaj and Devdutt’s performances, he said, “Making debut for your country you will always be nervous. The discussion was to give them the free hand there was no pressure put on them by the team mangement. The situation was such that in terms of batting we only had six batsmen. But there were no instructions on how to play. The duo will be disappointed but they will learn.”
