Ajinkya Rahane to lose Vice Captaincy? Rahane’s poor form will cost him dearly. Despite selectors giving the Indian vice-captain a long rope, he has failed to deliver in last 1 year.
InsideSport has learnt that the selectors and the team management is of the view that time has come to replace Rahane with all format hit Rohit Sharma as India’s new vice-captain.
- 2020– 272 runs from 4 Tests @38.86
- 2021– 407 runs from 12 Tests @20.35
- vs NZ in 1st Test– 35 and 4 runs respectively
When the announcement can be made? The selection meeting will happen in a few days. BCCI is yet to get the government clearance for the tour. In all likelihood selectors will meet after the Mumbai test to select the touring party for South Africa.
Is tour getting delayed? One thing is certain now that the tour is getting delayed. Indian team earlier was scheduled to travel to South Africa on 9th December.
Leave alone the travel, BCCI is yet to select the team for the series.
In all likelihood a test will be cut from itinerary now.
If given clearance by the government, the tour will now start from the Boxing Day Test (Dec 26) Test instead of on Dec 17. This means 9-10 days delay can’t be ruled out.

As per the earlier schedule, the tour comprises of three Tests, three ODIs and four T20 Internationals and was slated to start on December 17 at Johannesburg.
