India Tour of SA: Mohammed Shami’s ‘STUNNING’ statement, ‘Batting was loose, due to which team suffered in South-Africa’

Mohammed Shami ‘STUNNING’ statement – Blames batsmen for SA Debacle: India lost the Test series 2-1 after winning the first match in Centurion. Shami said, Indian bowlers gave their absolute best on the South Africa tour. According to him had the bowlers been given another 50-60 runs to defend, the result could have been different.

“Please don’t forget that our bowling unit has been doing exceedingly well, and been consistent on most occasions. So this is one huge positive that always keeps us in the game.

“Yes, our batting may have been a bit loose at times, due to which the team has suffered.

“if we had some 50-60 more runs to defend, we certainly could’ve had a greater chance of winning those two games,” he added.

“But I’m sure things will be sorted out,” the 31-year-old said told The Telegraph from his residence (at Sahaspur in Amroha) in Uttar Pradesh.

Why Shami has blamed Indian Batsmen for the failure in South Africa? Shami is not incorrect in his statement. It was a batting failure which costed India the historic test series win in South Africa.

  • KL Rahul was the team’s highest scorer with 226 Runs in 6 innings. But 123 of these runs came in 1 inning. Rest of the 5 innings he only scored 123 with a total average of just 37.66
  • Mayank Aggarwal: Same was the case with Rahul’s opening partner Mayank. He played a hand of 60 in the 1st innings at Centurion but could not cross 30 in rest of the innings. Overall he scored 135 on the tour @ 22.5
  • Cheteshwar Pujara: He also struggled whole series with just 124 runs in 6 innings
  • Ajinkya Rahane: The former India vice-captain scored just 136 runs in 6 innings and is now set to lose his place in the team
  • Rishabh Pant: Other than century in the 3rd test, Pant also had little to show in the series. He scored just 186 runs in 6 innings.
  • Virat Kohli: By Kohli’s high standards, his series performance was below-par. He missed 2nd test & ended up scoring 161 runs in 4 innings.

Shami is hopeful that this is just one off series for the batsmen & fans should not be worried too much about it.

“See, we’ve been playing on a fairly regular basis and been part of bubble life for quite some time now. So summing up the overall situation, I would only say that ups and downs happen, and we just don’t need to get too hyper or worry too much about it,” Shami added in the interview.
