India Squad NZ Series: IND vs NZ Series: Much to the delight of the Indian fans, the express pacer Umran Malik has returned to the Indian squad. He will feature in both T20I and ODI series against NewZealand right after T20 World Cup 2022. The Speedster from Jammu and Kashmir made his debut for India in the 20-over format. However, he was dropped following an unimpressive show in India colours. He did not feature in India’s plans for Asia Cup and T20WC. But he has been recalled now. Umran Malik shot to fame after his excellent outing in the IPL 2022 with Sunrisers Hyderabad. With express pace, clocking over 150KPH, he gave selectors a new option. The 22-year-old was included in the Indian squad which faced Ireland in a T20I series. The right-arm pacer made his debut in that series, and he was also included in a T20I game against England.

However, high economy rate and not managing to cross the 150KPH barrier meant, he was a flop show. Speaking about his numbers in the 20-over format, the right-arm pacer has represented India in only three matches and has taken two wickets. He bowls at an economy of 12.44 with his average being 56.0.
Umran Malik in T20Is:
- Matches: 3
- Overs: 9
- Wickets: 2
- Economy: 12.44
However, Umran’s pace can be quite helpful for the Indian team going to take on New Zealand on their home soil. The wickets in the New Zealand generally assist the pacers with the new ball bowlers getting some swing and bounce from the pitches.
After being dropped from India squad, Umran has worked on his skills. He bowled a fiery spell against Mumbai during a group stage match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2022, bagging four wickets for 27 runs.
It remains to be seen if the teary pacer can bowl some match-winning spells for the Men in Blue in the upcoming tour. If he does well, he can keep his chances alive despite tough competition.
As for the squad, regular skipper Rohit Sharma has been rested for the tour. Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya will be leading the Indian squad in the T20I series. Senior batter Shikhar Dhawan is set to lead the Indian squad in the three-match ODI series against the Blackcaps.
