Kane Williamson and Trent Boult could be rested for either leg of the India series as New Zealand look to test their depth ahead of the 2023 World Cup in India. Boult is likely to miss the T20 series having opted out of the NZC contract and joining up with BBL franchise Melbourne Stars ahead of the new season. Williamson is also a doubt for the 20-over series, with suggestions that time might be up for the 33-year-old in the shortest format of the game.
The selectors will also have an eye on next year’s ODI World Cup in India and fringe players could get a look in. Martin Guptill, who was benched in favour of Finn Allen in the T20 World Cup, will return for the 50-over squad. Tom Latham, Henry Nicholls, Will Young and Blair Tickner are also in line for a recall to the side. Adam Milne, Michael Bracewell and Mark Chapman were all part of the T20 World Cup squad but failed to get a game.

NewZealand A were comprehensively beaten by India A earlier in September, but the likes of Ben Sears and Matt Fisher are in line for a place in the ODI squad. Wicketkeeper-batter Dane Cleaver could get a run in the T20s. Rachin Ravindra will also be in line to fill up an all-rounder spot on the side.
Should Williamson be rested, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee and Tom Latham are all leadership options for the Blackcaps. Latham is likely to get the nod in ODIs, while either Southee or Santner leads the team in the shorter formats, depending on their availability.
NewZealand will play three ODIs and three T20Is against India with the series kicking off on November 18. Hardik Pandya will lead the Indian side in the T20s, while Shikhar Dhawan will lead the ODI squad in the three-match series.
