  • With a 2-0 record in T20Is against Ireland, Hardik Pandya will aim to add to that tally.

3 wins on Irish soil–

  • Overall, India have played on three occasions on Irish soil with two of these matches coming in the T20I format.
  • India first played on Irish soil in 2007 in ODIs when Rohit Sharma was handed his debut.
  • The match was a one-sided affair for the Indian side as they got the better of the Men in Green. The team included the likes of Gautam Gambhir and Sourav Ganguly.
  • India haven’t played an ODI series since then, but did manage to play two T20Is in 2018.

One-sided affair in 2018-

  • In 2018 India played two T20Is on Irish soil as they won on both occasions.
  • A 76-run win in Dublin was followed by another 143-run win at the same venue two days later.
  • Rohit Sharma will have fond memories from that tour as he scored 97 runs in the first match as he missed out on a hundred.
  • In next match, India posted 213 runs, thanks to Suresh Raina’s 69 and KL Rahul’s 70-run knock as India defeated the home side by 143 runs as they were bowled out for just 70.
  • Yuzvendra Chahal was adjudged the ‘Player of the Series’ as India won the series 2-0.

Hardik Pandya looking to make an impression-

For the series against Ireland, the selectors have shown faith in Hardik Pandya and handed him the captaincy reign. Hardik had a brilliant captaincy stint with Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he led them to the title on debut season.

He was rewarded for his excellent work as he was given the captaincy charge as the likes of Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant are involved in preparations for the England series.
