“The first batch will leave from Mumbai on June 16. They will have a few NCA staff with them. We have asked them to assemble in Mumbai by June 15. The second batch will leave on June 19 after the 5th T20 against South Africa from Bangalore,” a source close to the development told InsideSport.

Unlike last time though, with no bio-bubble in place, there will be no charter flights this time. But all the players will have to return two negative RT-PCR tests before boarding the flight for England.

The players will receive one set of tests before leaving for Mumbai and another before boarding flight. Once they reach London on June 20, they will travel to Leicester. There, India will have a short camp ahead of the warm-up match from June 24.

  • BCCI has asked Rohit Sharma and the players selected for the Test squad to assemble in Mumbai by June 15.
  • All players barring KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant will leave for England on June 16.
  • All players will have two sets of RT-PCR Covid tests before boarding the flight for England.
  • If anyone tests positive, they will have to wait and serve a mandatory isolation period before leaving for England.
  • The second batch including head coach Rahul Dravid will leave for London from Bengaluru on June 19.
  • Like last time, players can take their families with them on England tour.
  • However, there will be no charter flights this time.

“Last year, we had to arrange charter flights because it was during the pandemic. This time, it’s not the case. So, they will fly commercial. But we will follow all Covid protocols with mandatory tests before leaving,” a member of the selection committee told InsideSport.IN.

Meanwhile, India have received two huge injury boosts. Ravindra Jadeja has recovered from his rib injury while KL Rahul is recovering well at the NCA from his groin injury.

“He is recovering well. His injury is not as bad as it seemed. He has started rehabilitation at the NCA and as per the physios, he can be fit within two weeks before the warm-up match,” a member of the selection committee told InsideSport.

However, there will be another batch of players leaving for Ireland and England. A separate white-ball squad will be announced for Ireland and England tour on by June 20 and the players will leave on June 22 for Ireland.

After playing two T20s against Ireland on June 26 and 28, some of them will join the squad in England for three T20Is and as many ODIs. The rest will return to India. A selection meeting will be held after the South Africa series.
