India Tour of England: England’s return to winning ways might be great news for the world of cricket but it’s not so good news for Rohit Sharma & Co. Team India will be travelling to England next month to finish the five-match Test series that began in June last year. India lead 2-1 in the series but with Joe Root hitting top gear and Ben Stokes also returning to form, it is bad news for India. Follow IND vs ENG Live & ENG vs NZ Live Updates on InsideSport.IN.

England’s main concern was their batting. Other than Jo Root, no one seemed to be hitting the top gear. Ben Stokes’ return to the Test side and change in leadership has turned things around for England.

England were once again in trouble in a 277-run chase with New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson rattling them early on. But down to 69/4, Joe Root and Ben Stokes rescued the hosts. India did not have to worry about Ben Stokes threat in the first part of the series as Indian pacers hunted in packs to get the wickets after Joe Root. That isn’t the case anymore.

India Tour of England: Why England’s return to winning ways bad news for India?

  • India have a chance to win a Test series in England after 15 years. The last time India won there was back in 2007.
  • India lead the series 2-1 and a draw will suffice.
  • But England returned to winning ways ending a nine-match winless streak.
  • Joe Root has hit top gear once again while Ben Stokes too has been in fine form.
  • India on the other hand are a changed side. Virat Kohli has passed on the captaincy to Rohit Sharma while Ajinkya Rahane has also been dropped.
  • Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma both are struggling with form and so is Rishabh Pant.
  • Cheteshwar Pujara has done well in England and that will be key.
  • But England’s new coach Brendon McCullum knows the Indians players far too well having worked with many of them from close quarters at the Kolkata Knight Riders.
  • Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill will be two of them. One of the two is expected to play in the one-off Test match in the middle-order, a key area where India have struggled of late.
  • England won without Ollie Robinson and Jos Buttler. Both are expected to make a comeback.
  • Moeen Ali is also contemplating a U-turn from Test retirement. Sam Curran is also likely to be back.

For India, there will be no Virat Kohli to rile up the opposition and Ravi Shastri to support him. Instead, a calm and composed Rahul Dravid will be there to guide Team India, minus the aggression.

India will leave for England on June 16 under Rohit Sharma’s leadership. But the anticipation of an India win is already on the horizon. The entire BCCI top brass including President Sourav Ganguly, Secretary Jay Shah and Treasurer Arun Dhumal will be in Birmingham for the 5th Test on July 1.
