1. Opening Combination if KL Rahul is ruled out: One of the key areas for India to focus on would be the opening pair. Vice-captain KL Rahul has been ruled out of the India vs South African squad with a right groin strain.
It is unclear as to whether Rahul will be able to travel to England and take part either in the remaining Test match or the 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs. As far as the Test match is concerned, Shubhman Gill can partner with Rohit Sharma as the two opening batters.
But as the selectors haven’t yet named a replacement or backup option, Shubman Gill will be the sole opener available for India if Rahul is ruled out. Mayank Agarwal could be called in as backup.

2. Poor form of Rohit, Kohli, Rishabh: The three destructive and fiery batters of the Indian pecking order have failed to fire with the bat in recent times. Rohit Sharma had a horrible outing in IPL 2022 with his Mumbai Indians side.
Virat Kohli’s struggles with the bat for India and in international cricket have been well documented. The former India captain is averaging less than 30 in the last two years and that is the biggest concern.

Pant, now skipper of the Indian team for the South Africa series has faltered time and again and has managed to score just 40 runs in the last 3 games. Kohli has been abysmal with the bat for quite some time, with centuries avoiding him since time immemorial. Therefore a major issue that the Indian team will have to address is the current batting form of these 3 top batters.

3. Bowling plan against Unstoppable England: The batting power of England is well known throughout the world, and therefore the Indian team will have to focus and strategies their bowling options accordingly. The destructive English side chased down 300 runs in just 50 overs on day 5 of the 2nd test match against New Zealand. Fiery knocks from Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes sealed the series in the favour of the English side.
India has a good bowling setup, but the team has been inconsistent for quite some time. Moreover, with limited time available at hand, the Indian team will need to focus on how to better the English batters on their home turf.

4. Jadeja or Ashwin? The choice to pick between Jadeja and Ashwin will surely trouble the selectors for quite a bit. While Jadeja has had a disastrous run with CSK in IPL 2022, he has showcased his form in the previous games. On the other hand, Ashwin had a decent run in IPL 2022, where he came in handy with both the bat and ball.
The choice to play which all-rounder in the lower middle order will be a hard one to pick for the skipper and the selectors. Ashwin will fancy his chance in the test match while Jadeja can get his fair share of spots in the team in the ODI matches.
5. Out of form Siraj or Prasidh Krishna: Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj has been out of form for quite some time. Siraj managed to pick just 9 wickets for RCB this season in IPL 2022. On the other hand, Prasidh Krishna scalped 19 wickets this season in IPL for Rajasthan Royals and the bowler will contest for his spot in the Indian team.
