India to get Shami boost for Bangladesh Tests? Pacer makes rapid recovery

Shami, who has been on the sidelines since the ODI World Cup 2023, is recovering well and is expected to be fit for the IND vs BAN Test series

India cricket team pacer Mohammed Shami is racing against time to be fit for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. The pacer has been on the sidelines ever since the ODI World Cup in 2023, in which he reportedly participated despite carrying an injury. As per reports, Shami is continuing to recover well and is expected to be fit in time for the IND vs BAN series.

As per ESPNCricinfo, Shami has made ‘considerable progress’ in his recovery from the ankle injury. The report states that the selectors have been informed about Shami’s progress and that a decision on his participation in the Duleep Trophy will be taken soon.

The veteran pacer, who began bowling a little earlier at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) , is believed to be in the final stages of his rehabilitation from injury.

Shami suffered an ankle injury which forced him to undergo a surgery earlier in February-March. He missed IPL 2024 and was unavailable for the T20 World Cup as well. India will commence their Test series against Bangladesh in September.

In March, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said that Shami’s return is likely for the home series against Bangladesh. Also, Ajit Agarkar, the Chairman of Selectors for the Indian men’s team, is confident about Shami’s comeback to the Test team.
