India T20 WC Exit: IND ENG Semifinal: Team India’s T20 World Cup 2022 exit on Thursday after a 10-wicket drubbing against England exposed their chinks in the armour. The Rohit Sharma-led side not only looked conservative in their approach but also lacked intent in the final four clash. With that, former coach Ravi Shastri and batting legend Sunil Gavaskar have called for changes in India’s T20 squad. That could hint at transitioning players like captain Rohit Sharma himself besides Virat Kohli, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar among others. Follow ICC T20 World Cup 2022 LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.
The areas of concern for Team India are far too many. The team management lacked ideas. Their team selection was not up to the mark, besides some individual performances which remained under-par throughout the marquee tournament.

India T20 WC Exit: Team India set for BIG TRANSITION after Adelaide thrashing, Ravi Shastri, Sunil Gavaskar call for ‘CHANGES’, Check OUT
1983 World Cup winners Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar didn’t hold back to India’s ouster either. While Shastri called for ‘fresh blood’ in the team, Gavaskar hinted at a complete overhaul of players in the shortest format.
“India needs a new team, fresh legs, and a good fielding unit. You need to bring in fresh legs,” Shastri told the official broadcasters.
“A new Indian team under Hardik Pandya will be traveling to New Zealand soon. Clearly, the selection committee has sent the signal. Hardik Pandya won the IPL in his first year as captain and the team under him will be different. There could be retirements, there are a lot of players in their mid-30s who might consider their future in international T20s,” Gavaskar said.
India T20 WC Exit: What went wrong for Team India?
- The coach-captain pair of Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma showed faith in opener KL Rahul.
- But he failed to deliver time and again. In fact, he has failed against all Top 8 nations repeatedly.
- All-rounder Axar Patel was preferred ahead of wily wrist spinner Yuzvendara Chahal.
- The call was made even though Australian pitches have helped leg-spin.
- Senior pacers Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar failed to rise up to the occasion.
- As a result, young Arshdeep Singh had to take taking most of the burden for his side.
- Besides that, neither veteran Dinesh Karthik or Rishabh Pant could add much to the team’s tally throughout the marquee event.
Moreover, the mindset of the team first came under radar, when their bowling coach Paras Mhambrey asserted that all the practice sessions will be ‘optional’. It led to a majority of players taking the practice session for granted in the build-up to the semi-finals clash. However, the result of the match, showed that they could have spent more time practising than utlising it for their downtime.
