Former India captain Kapil Dev has doubled down on criticism of the Indian cricket team after they crashed out of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 on Thursday. Rohit Sharma and Co were handed a chastening 10-wicket defeat by England, who set up a clash against Pakistan in the final. The Men in Blue have not the T20 WC title since the inaugural edition in 2007, while their last trophy came in 2013.
Kapil Dev, who led India to their first World Cup title in 1983, admitted that the team could be called chokers after their latest defeat. Often SouthAfrica and NewZealand are referred with the same tag for falling short when the pressure is high. India’s seven knockout defeats in eight years could very well earn them the tag.
“Yes, we can call them chokers. That’s okay. They come close and then choke.”, Kapil Dev told in a show on ABP News.

However, Kapil Dev has also urged the fans to not be too hard on the Indian team as they recover from the semifinal defeat. The former captain suggested that while India had a bad game of cricket, one cannot judge the team based on one performance.
“But don’t be too harsh. I agree, India played bad cricket, but we cannot be overly critical based on just one game,” he said.
India are yet to lift an ICC trophy since their success in the 2013 Champions Trophy. Rohit Sharma and Co however will have their cahcnes in a packed ICC calendar, with the 50-over World Cup in 2023, the T20 World Cup in 2024 and the Champions Trophy in 2025.
