India Tour of West Indies: IND vs WI Live – The dream is currently diminished for India’s fastest bowler Umran Malik. The 23-year-old’s short adventure with the national team has ended as the BCCI selectors have dropped him from India’s T20- squad for the West Indies tour. Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has been preferred instead due to his impressive T20I debut outing against England. Follow IND vs WI Live Updates with InsideSport.IN.

India T20 Squad WI Tour: Why Arshdeep Singh gets the nod ahead of Umran Malik?

  • Umran has played three T20Is and has managed to pick up only 2 wickets at an unimpressive economy rate of 12.44.
  • Apart from raw pace, the pacer was erratic with his line and lengths.
  • On the other hand, Arshdeep Singh played one T20I and immediately picked up two wickets giving away just 5.14 runs per over.
  • Umran, who impressed everyone in IPL with raw pace of 150kmph, clocked speed in excess of 150 just twice in India colors.
  • On bouncy fast pitches like Ireland and England, he could never go beyond 148KPMH.

India T20 Squad WI Tour: BCCI selectors impressed with Arshdeep’s accuracy – Although Malik was preferred ahead of Arshdeep, it is the latter who impressed the BCCI selectors more. The left-arm pacer’s swing, accuracy, and discipline stood out in the first T20I against England.

Against a rampaging top order which comprises of Jason Roy, Jos Buttler, and David Malan, Arshdeep kept things quiet in the power play and later in the death overs picked up two wickets.

The left-arm pacer’s economy of 5.1 in the first T20I was second best after Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The 23-year-old is known for his exceptional death bowling skills and he managed to deliver the goods against the rampaging England line-up. Sadly for Umran he did not pick wickets in cluster and was also not able to contain the flow of runs.
