Hardik Pandya was again hit with an injury scare on Sunday with the star Indian all-rounder hit with a neck sprain at Mount Maunganui. Pandya, who is leading the side in NewZealand, is earmarked as the next T20I captain after a stellar comeback. Hardik led Gujarat Titans to the IPL 2022 title in their inaugural season, while being one of the most consistent performers with both bat and ball this year.

The 28-year-old however did not bowl on Sunday despite the surface supporting pace and bounce, which plays to Hardik Pandya’s strengths. Instead, Deepak Hooda chipped in with four overs, and the move worked with the off spinner picking up impressive figures of 4/10.

Hardik brushed off the injury concerns after the game, suggesting that India needed more batsmen who chipped in with the ball. Speaking after the game, “I have bowled a lot, going forward I want to see more bowling options. Not always that this will work but I want more batters to chip in with the ball.”

Hardik is earmarked as India’s next t20I captain with the all-rounder set to take over from Rohit Sharma. InsideSport has learnt that Hardik Pandya will be officially elevated and crowned as India’s T20 Captain before 3 Match T20 & ODI Series vs SriLanka. Rohit will remain India captain for ODI’s and TEST TEAM according to a top source in the BCCI.

Among the reasons behind Rohit’s ouster is India’s t20 world cup performance, while at 35 the Hit-Man isn’t getting any younger. With ODI and Test commitments also on his plate and his injury record, it is prudent to take some pressure of the captain.

While Hardik has proved his fitness, concerns still remain with a niggle here and there for the Indian all-rounder. injuries will not help his captaincy bid, and the 28-year-old will hope to brush aside all concerns and deliver with both bat and ball.
