India Squad West Indies: Is Ashwin still part of T20 plans? While PTI reported that veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is still part of the plans for T20 World Cup, InsideSport understands that he is not. The simple logic is a player who is in the scheme of things for a mega tournament is expected to play a maximum number of matches. Ashwin’s last T20 match was back in November against New Zealand.
Since then, India have played against West Indies, Sri Lanka, South Africa and England and he has not found a place. But with Washington Sundar still recovering from injury, the selectors want to try an off-spinner in Ashwin in West Indies. However, if Sundar is fit by T20 World Cup, Ashwin certainly won’t be in plans.

While Kohli will get his break as he has sought but his place in the national T20 squad for the next big international assignment (Asia Cup in Sri Lanka) will depend on his T20 form in the two games that he will play against England beginning on Thursday.
In between, India are expected to play a short T20 series in Zimbabwe and just like in Ireland, a second string team is supposed to travel to the African nation.
KL Rahul is expected to be fit before the Asia Cup but if he recovers in time for the Zimbabwe tour, he will be part of that short series.
“Obviously, the stars will be rested for the Zimbabwe series as it will be followed by Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, home series against Australia and the team then travels to Australia for the World Cup,” the source said.
Deepak Chahar, who is recovering from a hamstring and back injury, is expected to be fit for the Asia Cup starting August 27.
