India Warm-UP Matches WC: InsideSport already had reported, Indian team has decided to fly net bowlers and standbyes along with the Indian Squad to Australia. Indian team will now leave immediately after playing its third T20 International against South Africa in Indore on October 4.

The BCCI is planning at least three warm-up games there in addition to two matches organised by the ICC against New Zealand (Oct 17) and Australia (Oct 18).

India for now is scheduled to play two warm-up games. India will play hosts Australia, and New Zealand on October 17 and October 19 at the Gabba in Brisbane respectively before the start of the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup.

The Indian team open their World Cup campaign against Pakistan in Melbourne on October 23.

India T20 WC Squad: Why India have opted to take all four standby players?

  • For the first time, India will have all their standby players available with the squad.
  • With Mohammed Shami (Still Covid Positive) and Deepak Chahar still making a comeback, they need to be with the team to be ready.
  • They will train under Rahul Dravid and Paras Mhambrey so when required, they can be called in replacing an injured player.
  • Furthermore, India are taking note of their past experience. In 2020 when India toured Australia, they had just one player left in the Playing XI from the original squad.
  • To avoid such a scenario, India will have their full 19-member squad available.
  • India are also mindful that there are only four seamers at their disposal in the 15-member squad which may not be sufficient in case of an injury.
  • As Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel are yet to make a comeback and Mohammed Shami yet to play any T20I since the T20 WC, they must play together often to be in sync.
  • Team India will leave for Australia on October 6 immediately after the end of T20 series against South Africa.
